Charleston Fashion Week Crowns Its Next Emerging Designer
The winning look from Larika Page Collection as shown during Charleston Fashion Week, photo:fashionwirepress.com
In March, the historic city of Charleston, South Carolina hosted its fourth annual Fashion Week with more than 30 runway shows which included collections by eight semi-finalists selected from CFW’s 2010 Emerging Designer Competition. The designers faced off in an “Ode to McQueen” challenge that asked them to create an original Alexander McQueen-inspired piece using 12 oxford shirts. The panel judging this year’s competition were fashion industry veterans Cynthia Rowley,Mychael Knight, Ashley Reid, and ELLE Fashion News Director, Anne Slowey. The competition and overall winner was Larika Page with her Lady Gaga-reminiscent white and cobalt final piece and her collection’s feminine dresses and onesies. Along with the coveted title and warm accolades, Page also received prizes that included a free runway show at next year’s CFW, a $15,000 professionally-designed website, and $1,000 to help her continue her line.Source: Elle Blog

Vintage Lacroix
Cameron Silver of Decades Vintage Store Los Angeles also presented at SCAD Style. One of his pieces that caught my eye was this Vintage Christian Lacroix dress for Jean Patou. I later learned this dress was only presented on the runway in 1987 at Lacroix last show at Jean Patou and due to disagreements the collection never went into production and Lacroix launched his own label and so that collection was boxed up the whole time. Cameron just acquired this dress and it will be available at Decades Los Angles

Kelly Cutrone's Book Signing at SCAD Style Savannah
Hundreds of students, fashionistas and PR aspiring young girls turned out to listen to Ms Cutrone's presentation at the Savannah's College of Art and Design SCAD Style going on this week.
Ms Cutrone was definately a hit, her speech was as raw and real is it can possibly be, she explained how the real world works and what it takes to succeed (hard work and quit complaining).
After her presentation she signed her new book "If you have to Cry go Outside" .
IMG senior VP Fern Mallis steps down to start her own company
New York, NY
IMG senior VP Fern Mallis, who helms Fashion Week, is stepping down to start her own consulting company! She's calling it Fern Mallis LLC, and today is her last day at IMG. Mallis has been Fashion Week's planner since the event began eighteen years ago, when she was executive director of the CFDA. She said the move had been a long time coming. When we were planning the move to Lincoln Center, it felt like closure, like the end of the cycle," she told WWD.
With IMG Fashion as her first client, Mallis won't abandon Fashion Week entirely. But with her stepping down from IMG as the veritable face of the event, Fashion Week moving to Lincoln Center, and Stephanie Winston Wolkoff signing on as Fashion Week director (a brand-new position), it sounds like we're in for a hugely different Fashion Week come September.
